Round Table on the issues relating to management and promotion of creativity and innovation - Geneva, April 10, 2003

The Permanent Mission of Romania organized on April 10, 2003, with the support of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), a round-table discussion on the issues relating to management and promotion of creativity and innovation, with the participation of officials from the Ministry of Education and Research, the Romanian State Office for Inventions and Trademarks, and Romanian inventors, participating to the 31st International exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products (Geneva, 9 to 14 April 2003).

The round table offered an excellent opportunity for debates aimed at raising awareness on issues related to the protection and promotion of Intellectual Property in Romania, with particular focus on the huge potential in the field of creativity and innovation.

The presentations made by the key-note speakers were focused on:

• The management of intellectual property rights - WIPO cooperation with countries in transition from Europe - Mr. Jeno BOBROVSZKY - Director, Division for Cooperation with Certain Countries in Europe and Asia;
• The rights of creators and owners of intellectual property - Mr. Dimiter GANTCHEV - Senior Officer, Copyright and Related Rights Sector;
• Small - and medium-sized enterprises as driving force behind innovations and the knowledge-driven economy - Mr. Guriqubal Singh JAIYA - Director, SMEs Division;
• Promotion of inventive and creative activity all over the world through recognition and protection of intellectual property rights - Mr. Valdimir YOSSIFOV - Director, Division of Infrastructure Services and Innovation Promotion;
• The research and development (R&D) activity: priority for the societies in transition. The technological transfer -determinant stage of the innovation process- Dr. Hans Falk HOFFMANN - Director, Division on Computing and Transfer of Technology (CERN);
• The Project of the National Strategy on Innovation and Technological Transfer - Mrs. Narcisa TANASE, Ministry of Education and Research.
