Visit by H.E. Mr. Dan NICA, the Minister of communications and information technology of Romania to Geneva (April 29, 2002)

On the occasion of his participation to the UN/ECE European Regional Meeting on the "United Nations ICT Task Force Regional Network and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)", H.E. Minister Dan NICA made a presentation on the concept of the Regional Ministerial Conference, based on the UN/ECE membership, in preparation of the WSIS, Bucharest, 7-9 November 2002.
The UN/ECE conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic community, national experts and representatives of other international organizations dealing with Information Society matters (UNESCO, WIPO, ITU, UNCTAD, WTO).
A major objective of the meeting was to define Regional Priorities for the World Summit on the Information Society and  the European Preparatory Conference in Bucharest. 
The bilateral aspects of the cooperation between Romania and UN/ECE were taken up in a separate meeting with Mrs. Brigita Schmögnerová, the Executive Secretary of Economic Commission for Europe.
Another important moment of the visit was the reception hosted by the Minister Dan NICA, on the occasion of the annual session of the International Telecommunication Union Council. In this context, Mr. Dan NICA announced the Romanian candidature for re-election as member of the ITU Council, at the elections which will take place during the Plenipotentiary Conference in Marrakesh -  September 23 to October 18, 2002.
