Romanian cultural evening at the Palais des Nations: "Inspiration: paintings by Mariana Ioanitescu" - 4-19 September 2003

On September 4, 2003, the Permanent Mission of Romania and the United Nations Office in Geneva hosted, at the Palais des Nations, under the high patronage of Mr. Pierre le Loarer, the President of Cultural Activities Committee of the UN and director of the UN Library, and Mr. Petru Dumitriu, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Romanian Mission, the opening of the exhibition "Inspiration: paintings by Mariana Ioanitescu".

On this occasion, Mr. Pierre le Loarer and Mr. Petru Dumitriu, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Romanian Mission, delivered short introductions.

Mrs. Mariana Ioanitescu, Romanian painter, lives and works in Bucharest. Since 1996 she opened Gallery 15, a personal permanent exhibition in Bucharest, where all of her works can be admired and, eventually, purchased. Her exhibition at the Palais des Nations contained 70 paintings: modern art, portraits, landscapes, still life, flowers, classic.

The opening of the exhibition was followed by a reception offered by the Permanent Mission of Romania.

Participation roumaine au Salon Arts & Créations (Genève, Palexpo, 9-13 avril 2003)

Le 4e Salon International Arts & Créations a eu lieu à Genève Palexpo, du 9 au 13 avril 2003. Près de 200 exposants provenant de 12 pays ont été présents dans les domaines des activités artistiques, de l'artisanat et de la mode.

Le 4e Salon Arts & Créations de Genève a été entièrement dédié aux créateurs, artistes professionnels et privés, artisans, designers, stylistes exerçant une activité dans les domaines des activités artistiques, de la mode et de l'artisanat ainsi qu'aux fournisseurs de matériels pour les beaux-arts et pour les loisirs créatifs.

Le Salon Arts & Créations a compris 3 espaces :

• les activités artistiques, dans lesquelles se sont trouvés les artistes, les participants au concours du Créa d'Or ainsi que les fournisseurs des Beaux-Arts et des loisirs;
• l'artisanat où ont été placés les créations originales et les démonstrations de savoir-faire d'artisans provenant de divers pays;
• la mode et accessoires de mode où ont été présentés des vêtements, bijoux et autres accessoires.

A la section d'art, Madame Mariana Ioanitescu, plasticienne roumaine a présenté art moderne, portraits, paysages, nature morte, fleurs, classique. Elle a également participée au concours Créa d'Or 2003, à la section " La peinture sur tout support et sculpture ".

La Fondation Turism European in Romania et l'Agence de Tourisme Religieux "Le Pérégrin " de la Patriarchie Roumaine ont participé, dans le cadre de la section " Artisanat du monde ", avec des créations populaires roumaines, peintures des oeufs avec dessins, broderie de Munténie, icônes en verre de Maramures et en bois de Munténie, tapis de Tismana.

Romanian Ethno-Jazz Concert at the Palais des Nations in Geneva

On February 17, 2003, the Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN Geneva hosted, at Palais des Nations, Bar Serpent, an extraordinary concert of ethno-jazz with Theodora Enache, one of the most distinguished jazz artists in Romania, who is receiving increasing international acclaim, as well as three other young and very talented artists: Marius Mihalache (cembalo), Lucian Maxim (percussion, steel saw, drums) and Arthur Balogh (bass).

They are touring Europe in the following weeks with "RADACINI - BACK TO MY ROOTS" and performing concerts in Budapest, Vienna, Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

The songs of Theodora Enache are inspired from the traditional Romanian folk music. The haunting and melodic beauty of this music, expressed in its indigenous simplicity, features inventive arrangements: vocal jazz improvisations and free-flowing highlights steel saw, cembalo and percussion (see the program of the concert).

The concert was honored by the presence of Mr. Ion Iliescu, President of Romania, who paid a one-day working visit in Geneva, as a special guest in the framework of the preparatory process of the World Summit on Information Society.
 
 

Musique et danse populairs avec les enfants roumains (septembre, 2002)

La Mission Permanente de la Roumanie à Genève, avec le généreux appui de M. Dr. Dumitru Lacatis et de M. Ioan Mustata, a organisé, le 20 septembre 2002, au siège du Bureau International du Travail, à Genève, une soirée très originale soutenu par l'Ensemble Folklorique " RARAUL " de Campulung-Moldovenesc (musique et danse folklorique roumain présentés par des enfants entre 10 et 15 ans).

L'Ensemble Folklorique " Raraul " a soutenu également, le 23 septembre 2002, un concert sur la Scène des Collines à Yverdon, à l'" Expo'02 ".

Campulung-Moldovenesc est une ville située au nord de la région Moldavie de Roumanie, très riche en art folklorique. La richesse du folklore de Campulung-Moldovenesc expriment le bonheur du people roumain de vivre en paix et en amitié.

Les costumes traditionnels de cette zone, caractérisés par leur chromatique, leur broderie et leur ornementation polychrome, forment un ensemble harmonieux d'une grande valeur artistique. On dit que " l'épaulette brodée de la chemise paysanne est une poésie ". Et, c'est tout à fait vrai.

L'Ensemble Folklorique " RARAUL ", conduit par M. Ilie Filimon et M. Nita Barsa, a dans son répertoire, des chansons et des danses appartenant à toutes les régions de Roumanie. Il a participé aux nombreux Festivals et Concours nationaux et internationaux et il a obtenu un impressionnant nombre de prix et trophées.

Les petits artistes roumains de " RARAUL " sont aimés et très appréciés par tous les habitants de la région de Bucovine pour leur talent et pour le message artistique qu'ils transmettent.

Deux artistes roumaines, Irina Horsia Gianasso et Ruxandra Sibil Mermeze exposent au Forum Genève Crédit Suisse. Elles sont unies par l'amour pour le blanc et la volumétrie. "Ayant la chance de se réjouir d'une activité prodigieuse internationale, Irina Horsia est une artiste complexe, qui sait rejoindre la peinture aux sculptures et graphique.

Ce qui la caractérise c'est l'oscillation entre la surface plane et le volume pour la majorité de ses création et les effets donnés par le blanc sur blanc. Le masque apparaît comme un leitmotif de sa création. Les ombres naturelles, réalisées grâce au traitement tridimensionnel des visages impersonnels appartenant aux ancêtres mythiques, entre en résonance avec les autres éléments appliqués sur la toile. Plasticienne douée de personnalitée et originalitée, Irina Horsia est de nature à concevoir des oeuvres d'une grande force évocatrice."

"Les mouvements des astres confèrent aux tapisseries de Ruxandra Sibil Mermeze le thème principal. La germination, la fertilité, la succession des saisons, tous ces mystères de la vie ont offert a l'artiste la possibilité de démontrer sa force de suggestion.

L'artiste obtient des accords subtils de blanc sur blanc a l'aide du changement de la direction du tissu et par l'introduction de nœuds persans.

Ruxandra Sibil Mermeze est une artiste pleine d'imagination, de fantaisie et possède le pouvoir de recréer, dans les tapisseries, la grandeur de la nature et l'émotion de cette grandeur, qui tient du vrai talent." (Adrian Silvan Ionescu, critique d’art)

Journées roumaines à Plan les Ouates (22-25 mai 2002)

Les autorités de la commune Plan les Ouates, en collaboration avec l’Association « Sangeorgiu », ont organisé cette année, Les Journées Roumaines à Plan les Ouates (22-25 mai 2002).

Du 22 au 25 mai, la Salle Communale de Plan les Ouates a accueilli une série de manifestations :

• Soirée officielle (accueil des représentantes de Sangeorgiu de Padure par la

Musique Municipale de Plan les Ouates, hymnes roumain et suisse, les discours officielles et la signature de l’Accord de Fraternité, apéritif). Discours introductif de SE Mme Anda Filip, représentant permanent de la Roumanie auprès de l’ONU.

• Concert de Pâques par le Chœur Théâtral d’Avully (chants liturgiques orthodoxes roumains).

• Débat « Opérations Villages Roumaines et ses développements» avec la participation de S.E. M. Ioan Maxim, Ambassadeur de Roumanie en Suisse (à Berne), Mme Nicolette Franck, journaliste et écrivain (Genève), M. Paul Hermant, journaliste, co-fondateur d’OVR-International (Bruxelles), M. Georges Holdener, architecte, président de PRECO (Association d’ingénierie à but lucratif en faveur de la Roumanie), M. Francois Ruegg, docteur en ethnologie, Université de Fribourg. Modérateur : M. Yves Lador, conseiller auprès d’organismes internationaux à Genève.

• Spécialités culinaires roumaines par Maître Petrisor.

• « Toujours l’Amour », spectacle de pantomime par Dan Puric et Carmen Ungureanu, comédiens roumains de Théàtre National de Bucarest.

• Concert par Trio Porte-Bonheur (musique populaire de la Roumanie).

• Spectacle par Fulgerica et les Mahala Gypsies.

Romania at the International Exhibitions of Geneva (May 2002)

At the 30th edition of the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, (May 1 - 5, 2002), Romania was present with a national stand along with other 43 countries. This edition marked also the 11th participation of Romania in the Geneva Inventions Exhibition. The Romanian stand displayed a number of 67 inventions created by enterprises and research centers, and as in previous editions, received an important number of medals and awards granted by the international jury of the exhibition. The Romanian inventors and their creations were granted 15 gold medals, 31 silver medals, 21 bronze medals and three of them received special awards, namely the "Award of the Ministry of Industries, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation", the "Award of the State Agency for Industrial Property of the Republic of Moldova" and the "Special Award of the Hungarian Association of Inventors".

The second edition of the Arts and Creation Exhibition at PALEXPO featured this year three Romanian stands that enjoyed great interest from the general public. 

A team of artists and teachers from the district of Zalau, situated in the North-Western part of Romania, at the heart of Transylvania, presented a rich collection of traditional painting, mostly icons on glass. Among them, several outstanding pieces were created by children, ages 7-14, who are part of the Artistic Group "Le Paradis Perdu", coordinated by professor Cristina Ignatiuc.

Angelica Miclescu, photo on right in traditional Romanian dress, also exhibited a unique and valuable collection of hand-woven tapestry, one that is gaining growingand particular recognition in countries of Western Europe and North America. Portraying Romanian landscape and traditional folklore themes, the tapestries were also awarded by the international jury of the Arts and Creation Exhibition.

Last but not least, with the generous contribution and support of Association Suisse-Roumanie (culturelle, touristique et économique), Doina Levintza and Dan Coma - two of the leading names in Romania in the field of fashion design - presented samples of their collection in haute couture and leather products. 
 

The International Book and Multimedia Fair in Geneva it's one of the greatest cultural events in Switzerland. Exhibitions cover more than 30.000 sqm. with 300 participants that represent almost 1000 editting houses from more than 40 countries and about 120.000 visitors (1.6 billion visitors from its first edition)

Being one of the permanent participants to this global cultural event, this year Romania was present with a large series of Romanian literature reviews and books. Manuscriptum, Tomis, Hyperion, Poesis and Dacia Literara were some of the most representative Romanian publications exposed. The exposition received high appreciation and excellent remarks from professionals and visitors.

This significant event also included a public presentation of the Romanian book dedicated to His Eminency Dr. Alexandru Safran, Chief-Rabbi of Geneva and former Chief- Rabbi of Romania. In the presence of His Eminency, the book entitled "Safran between eternals" was presented by Mr. Dorel Dorian, member of the Romanian Parliament.

The presence of Romania in this event has offered the occasion to renew contacts not only with people interested in Romanian literature and culture but also with international media representatives and publishers.
